Here at ARAR, we see our shelter as a safe transition point for many animals in need. Our goal is to keep animals in our shelter for the least amount of time possible. It is just a place for them to crash before their next step into a foster or adoptive home. Currently, we have about 30 cats and 10 dogs in our shelter. We do our best to make the animal's time here the best it can be. When they are in their kennels we play calming doggie music and they get enrichment actives. As we do not have a fenced in yard area outside, on nice days we schedule SniffSpots for our shelter residents! It is a great way that they can explore a new space and get some energy out.

Mission and Vision

A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) Animal Rescue specializing in dog and cat rescue in Southeastern Michigan. We are a no-kill, foster-based cat and dog rescue. All of the animals that come into our care have been rescued from one place or another. We pull from high-kill animal shelters, we take in the sick, unwanted, aggressive, abandoned, abused and neglected animals. We place them in a foster home with someone who will understand them, rehabilitate them and show them what it is like to be loved again. We feel that all animals deserve better and we strive to give them a life full of love and happiness. Each animal that comes into our organization is a part of someone’s family until they find their forever homes. This helps us to determine their personalities and work with them to give them the one on one attention that they deserve. We also run a community outreach project, helping 24/7 chained dogs, stray/feral cats and more. We provide medical care (including TNR), food, treats, toys, bones, proper tie outs, collars, shelter, straw and more!

Adoption Policy

We start our adoptions with an adoption application. The foster will review the application to make sure that placement is successful. The foster will do a vet check to make sure that any resident animals are fixed, UTD on vaccines, and on preventions. The foster will also complete a home check with any potential adopter. This is to make sure that the environment will be a safe one for any animals. The last step for approval is to do a meet and greet. This is where the potential family will meet the foster pet. If everything goes well then we fill out our contact. In our contract, we have many requirements for adopters to agree to. For example, one of our policies is that should they need to rehome the pet, they need to contact us. And for any of our animal s, only positive reinforcement training should be done and all animals should live indoors. For all cat contracts, we have a section that states that they should never be declawed.

"I have been blessed to be trusted to foster "fail" twice with A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue. First was my bestest boy Charlie I fostered to adopt in 2014, I loved him beyond all and had too little time with him. We took many, many walks - he loved to go up toe Lexington to visit my friend and walk along the lake. He also loved to eat and I loved to treat him! Sadly, at age 7 he developed diabetes and in November 2021 he crossed the Rainbow Bridge at age only 9. I was so distraught and did not know if I would get over Charlie and then I started looking for a special dog who might really need me and that is when I saw Goldie. Her human has gone into hospice and 10 year old Goldie was with a foster with ARAR. After a conversation with Michelle (the amazing director of ARAR), I contacted the foster and February 20 2022 Goldie became next foster to adopt. She had severe separation anxiety and lucky for me my boss was understanding and Goldie was able to accompany me everyday. The only complaint we got was from one of the departments that said Goldie doesn't spend enough time with them! Here we are two years later, she's really come out of her shell. She sassses me with the cutest "chomp" movement and big doggo smile! Everyone who meets her loves her, and learn to belly rub immediately. I only wish I could adopt more furbabies, especially the seniors because this has been pure JOY!"

"I'm here for Goldie! Goldie is our work dog at the City of Royal Oak. Her full time mom is Carol. Carol adopted Goldie from A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue in Feb. 2022 after her former owner could no longer care for her. Goldie is a senior gal with some separation issues. As for me, in 2023, I had begun to look for a new job after 30 years. I wasn't sure about the decision until I interviewed at the City of Royal Oak and learned I would have a work dog. I was overjoyed at the possibility. Fast forward to today and I love our Goldie. I am honored to be one of her most favorite people in the world. I've hosted this spunky lab at my home several times. I've also made a great friend in her mom, Carol. Goldie is Carol's 2nd adoption from Rejoyceful Animal Rescue. Charlie was her first and he lived a long spoiled life. My co-workers say Goldie saved Carol and healed her broken heart. Together they've given me new life."

"I know a couple of the girls who work for this rescue they are absolutely phenomenal. They put their heart and soul to helping these animals out. Some of them get dumped right outside their door and they take them in anyways even if they don’t have the funds or don’t have a foster they try to figure it out. They are one of the best. No animal is turned away and they do so much to help raise funds to help these poor animals that have been dumped so they can get them healthy and into a permanent forever family."

"We adopted our first dog from them off a recommendation. After following them on social media and our process of adoption we were fans. They truly care about all animals( but especially the "underdogs"). They vet and care about the animals no matter what. We went through the process again for a companion for our first and even though we had already adopted once a year earlier they still took the same steps to ensure he was the right fit. Which to me shows every animal they help goes to the best home for that animal. I have recommended them on many occasions to people looking and would to anyone else that would listen."

"ARAR is a grass roots organization that goes above and beyond. What is extra special is that they will support a pet and owner in an effort to keep them united, if able. If a pet is being surrendered and it can be avoided with some support, they give it. And, they do not shy away from special needs fur babies."
