First of all, Thank you to every staff member and volunteer who helped care for Dawson while he searched for a home. Your generosity and dedication helped this dog, and many others find amazing homes where they can be with someone who loves them. Dawson is settling in quickly, he got a chicken tender on the way home (since we hear he has a taste for chicken 😉) a bath, and went on a nice long neighborhood walk after exploring his new home. His personality is quickly coming out and we are getting to see his energetic side start to take over. It was touching seeing how many of you were excited to see him go and come out to say goodbye and I felt like I had to send a first night update to help everyone see how all of their effort with Dawson paid off. His name is Alpine now, in honor of a lake in the Boundary Waters. I have amazing memories of my last dog specifically two days we spent on Alpine Lake and wanted to have a happy piece of his memory to carry on, and Dawson… or Alpine, is the dog for job. I will send a few more updates in the first couple weeks so you can all be apart of watching him settle in. Please share this with anyone curious about how he’s adjusting, and thank you again for everything. He is an amazing dog.

Crossroads Animal Shelter was established in 1998 and at that time it was strictly foster based. In 2000, after major fundraising efforts we broke ground for a shelter in Buffalo, Minnesota and opened doors to the public in 2002. We have a lobby/reception area for adoptions and veterinary services. And dog and cat visitation rooms. There is also a Cat Colony room that can accommodate up to 12 cats. It also opens up to an airy "catio" space. Our building can house up to 30 dogs/puppies and 60 cats/kittens. In April 2023 we added veterinary services to the public. We offer affordable, quality spay/neuter services, vaccinations, dental and surgical procedures and other wellness needs. Crossroads is proud of our dedicated team of talented and compassionate animal care technicians, veterinary staff, adoption specialists, volunteers, and rescue partners. The work we do each day is often challenging and we are committed to making informed decisions to provide the best possible care for companion animals based on their individual needs and quality of life. We currently employ a staff of 15. Both Crossroads Animal Shelter and Crossroads Veterinary Clinic are registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit organizations.

Mission and Vision

To create a humane culture for companion animals by partnering with people to promote animal wellness, by providing access to affordable care, adoptions, surrenders, and striving to be progressive, responsible leaders in the animal welfare community.

Adoption Policy

At Crossroads we believe in counseling vs. screening, when an adopter meets an animal they wish to adopt, adopters complete a questionnaire to better understand their day-to-day lifestyle to ensure the pet selected is a good match and that we can set them up for success. Adopters meet with an adoption team member to answer any questions, and review the medical and behavioral history of their new pet During this process, we'll also review the animal’s medical and behavioral information, explain our policies and post-adoption services that are available to adopters, and provide resources and recommendations for future success.
