NMDOG is an in-the-trenches rescue serving the chained, the abused, the abandoned dogs of New Mexico. Headquartered out of Albuquerque, this small, 501(c)3 non profit, all volunteer, foster based rescue was established in 2010, touching the lives of thousands of dogs ever since

Adoption Policy

NMDOG doesn’t cut any corners when it comes to the care and placement of its dogs. When a dog enters the NMDOG program, they are guaranteed to receive the very best of care. This includes, at the very minimum, a full veterinary exam, spay or neuter, all vaccinations, de-worming, heartworm testing, and a microchip. Due to the nature of our work, many of the dogs NMDOG rescues need much more extensive medical care before they are cleared for adoption. NMDOG also provides behavior support and is diligent in every adoption, setting both the dog and the adopter up for success. A 7-week obedience class is included with every NMDOG adoption, and this training, along with the support of the entire NMDOG team, is available to every adoptive or foster family. “Once an NMDOG, always an NMDOG!” When you foster or adopt, you become part of the NMDOG family.

"NMDOG goes above and beyond any rescue I know. Not only does Angela Stell rescue dogs, but she gets to the root if the problem. Educating pet parents, providing support for pet parents, rehabilitating rescued dogs so that they can be adopted and be good citizens, but also helping to change the laws for animal welfare. She and NMDOG deserve every award there is for their tireless work. Their impact is monumental."

"NM Dog is a wonderful group of caring people who go above and beyond to help and rescue animals. We adopted our great loving husky from them."

"NMDOG saw that we had a rottweiler with SEVERE hip dysplasia and they sent us supplements for him out of the blue before we even knew them. Later, they asked us to care for one of their dogs from a hoarding case and have continued to support us with that dog financially when necessary. Another dog, Emmy, was an NMDOG transferred to us. We adopted her to a lovely family that fell on hard times. NMDOG helped that family find temporary housing. NMDOG is the Mother Theresa of all dog rescues, going into the most brutal and heartbreaking situations one can imagine. They are the ONLY rescue in the state and perhaps all of the southwest that serve the neediest, most neglected, and abandoned dogs. Many of us in rescue could not bear to do what Angela Stell does. NMDOG helps dogs AND their people. Anne Greene, Friends of the Mountainair Animal Shelter"

"NMDOG is the best rescue in New Mexico, in my honest opinion. Angela Stell, president and founder of NMDOG, works her tail off to secure the best possible outcome for the "forgotten dogs" of NM. She does home visits of every potential adopter to ensure that the pups in her care are going to a great home, she sets the adopters up for success with initial supplies such as leashes, collars, beds, food, etc - all to ensure the best possible outcome for each dog that she rescues. Both of our current pups came to us via NMDOG - SAILOR as a rescue during an outreach mission in Northern New Mexico, and JORDY as a dog from a rural shelter in the south who was running out of time - he was so shy and fearful from a few years of living on the streets that no-one could "connect" with him. Fast forward a few years and SAILOR and JORDY are the best of friends, and they take turns sleeping on the bed with my husband and I! None of this would have been possible without Angela's devotion to ensuring that every one of her dogs goes to a great home. She truly is amazing <3"

"As a shelter medicine veterinarian in New Mexico, I have worked closely with many animal rescue organizations. NMDOG is my favorite, due to the high level of integrity in all of their operations. No other group provides such thorough follow-through and support for their rescued dogs. Their outreach and public education efforts are also highly effective and heartfelt."

"I’ve worked alongside NMDOG for about a decade now in very tough parts of NM. This organization has saved thousands of pets from cold winters providing housing and insulation for underserved communities. They have freed many dogs from life on a chain and provided alternate humane living conditions for them. The dedication and community focused changes they provide are not measurable in comparison to other organizations. Angela is a boots on the ground change maker in NM without her and NMDOG the laws in several counties would have never been changed and enforced to prevent animal cruelty and neglect. There is never a situation too daunting for them to step in provide opportunity for change and rescue."

"I cannot express enough how grateful I am for NM Dog and the incredible work they do to help dogs in need. My beloved rescue dog Luna was in a dire situation, facing a challenging medical diagnosis and needing urgent surgery that I couldn't afford on my own. That's when Angela from NM Dog stepped in as Luna's guardian angel. Angela's compassion, dedication, and unwavering support were truly a lifeline for us. She not only coordinated Luna's medical care but also went the extra mile to find a generous donor who contributed towards Luna's surgical expenses. Thanks to the love and dedication of Angela and NM Dog, Luna received the life-saving surgery she needed to improve her quality of life. The impact that NM Dog has on the lives of dogs and their families is immeasurable. Their commitment to helping animals in need, their tireless efforts to make a difference, and their compassionate hearts make them true heroes in the world of animal rescue. I am forever grateful for the love and support that NM Dog provided to Luna and me during our time of need."

"NMDOG has worked tirelessly to save the chained and badly treated dogs all over New Mexico. Even with all the horrible things they see, they persevere in doing what's right for NM's forgotten, mistreated dogs. Their tenacity and compassion for what they do is a bright light in the rescue community."
