We are a small volume rescue with a huge focus on humane education. We rescue dogs and cats and work with our adopters/fosters and the general public to educate about how to best support our companion animals so that their placements can be successful. Unwanted pets is at epidemic levels, and without education we won't make progress. Our rescue is unique in that we are run by multiple certified dog trainers and behavior professionals. We have a podcast called Pod To The Rescue, which is produced with the goal of providing evidence based behavioral support to adopters and fosters.

Mission and Vision

Rescue, Educate, Repeat - we cannot rescue our way out of the current homeless pet crisis. We need to address the core reasons for this crisis, and one of them is the huge amount of misinformation and mythology in our culture about dogs (and cats) and how to meet their needs and train them. Our rescue is education based, the cornerstone of which is our podcast Pod To The Rescue. Our podcast has listeners ALL over the world and has received rave reviews.

Adoption Policy

We are conversational based and decide based on the needs of the dog, and the lifestyle/commitment level of the adopter.

"Summit Dog Rescue is a rescue with heart and soul. Small but mighty, they extend every effort to rescue dogs and cats in danger and in need.Their adoption procedures are careful and kind, making sure they place their potential adoptees in the best possible homes. My daughter found her forever friend with Summit in 2015 and we have since volunteered, fostered and supported their organization. I know there are many rescues out there doing good work, but Summit Dog Rescue has my vote."

"Adopted our dog from Summit and everyone of the folks I dealt with were volunteers that were extremely helpful in determining which dog was right for our environment. Boy, were they spot on. Our dog is a perfect match. From what I have heard, this organization covers many states and takes in many dogs that otherwise would have been put down. Thank you Summit Dog Rescue. Buddy is the perfect dog for our family."

"Summit Dog Rescue in Boulder CO stands out both for its dedication to matching pets to people and homes that will be a great and permanent fit and for its commitment to providing training and behavior modification resources to pets and their new families to solidify a positive and lasting relationship. They enable great lives for pets and their people."

Volunteer / foster

"Summit Dog Rescue should be named Summit Superhero Dog Rescue. They are a very small, lean rescue with super-dedicated volunteers. I don't know how they manage to save the dogs that they rescue, each situation is so complex and often down to the wire at a shelter that has the dog scheduled to be euthanized. After Summit rescues these dogs, they provide safe and reliable transport, incredibly loving foster homes, and the best resources from nutrition to behavioral specialists. The sheer amount of time and energy that goes into keeping the rescue going is a testament to their dedication. We adopted our dog through Summit and were so impressed with the process and support provided. From a thorough application to reference checks to a home check to followup support, they were amazing. They really work to match dogs with the right families and to educating adopters around all things related to bringing a dog into your family. They work using positive reinforcement and keep up with all the latest research around training, nutrition, and behavior. Summit probably has a volunteer staff of about 6 people, but they somehow make it seem like they have 3 times that. This alone tells you how dedicated & tireless they are - and how deserving they are of more support!"
