At our rescue, we are not only dedicated to matching our dogs with the perfect home, we are also dedicated to educating our community about the benefits of spaying and neutering as Dalis herself raised the funds to build a surgical room at our rescue where we host low cost spay and neuter clinics for the public. We are not exclusive to one area or county, in fact many people use our services from all over the state of Michigan and even some out of state including Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana. Dalis’ heart belongs to the misunderstood, the old, and the disabled. She always says that her goal is to rescue, but that her dream is that one day she won’t have to.

Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue — Sniffspot

Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue

#15 in United States, #1 in Washington DC, #1 in Washington

Laila's Legacy was founded with a mission to ensure dogs impacted by breed bias and behavioral or physical challenges have a chance at a better life. Laila, our name sake, was an incredible dog who had a behavioral challenge that caused aggression towards dogs. Laila loved her humans, and especially our Co-Founder, Ashe. She was a large bully breed so her size combined with local breed bias meant sometimes people were afraid of her. But that didn't stop her from winning people over with her goofy energy. The rescue she was with did not have the resources to support Laila and couldn't find a suitable partner to take on her care because of her size and breed. As a result she was euthanized. Laila's Legacy was founded to save dogs like Laila. We never want a dog to be euthanized because an owner, a volunteer, or an organization didn't have the resources or because breed bias stopped them from getting the help they deserved. Dogs like Laila deserve a chance at life and that's what we're here to do!

Through Facebook island of misfits heard about the kitten and showed up the next morning with a crate. They got it immediately to a vet, the kitten was a valuated put on antibiotics and had surgery a couple days later. If it weren’t for them, this sweet, scared little kitten would be dead. With a focus on community partnerships, this forward-facing approach works to ensure safe and healthy environments for people and pets. The department promotes responsible pet ownership, implements programs to reduce animal overpopulation, and has formed innovative partnerships and programs to increase the City’s effectiveness in supporting animals and humans in Mobile. As part of this approach, a newly modernized Animal Services facility is currently in design and will be built in a new location central to all parts of the City, and many new positions are also being added to further our mission and programs. We are dedicated to saving abandoned and neglected dogs from our core shelter partners: Pine Bluff, West Memphis, Hazen, Carlisle, Dewitt, and Stuttgart. We also assist law enforcement with special cases as needed. ‚Äã In 2023, Rescue Road sent 580 dogs to safety. Since the rescue's inception in 2012, we have saved more than 8,500 dogs and counting.

    Last chance Arkansas

In 2005 Last Chance Arkansas was founded as a 100% volunteer based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based out of Central Arkansas. Last Chance AR believes in advocating for the abused, abandoned, and neglected animals across the state that cannot speak for themselves. Working in conjunction with various clinics, Last Chance AR travels statewide to urban and rural communities to provide comfort, safety, and love to animals in need. Hundreds of lives have been saved through our efforts, which include a spay and neuter program for impoverished pet owners, frequent visits to rescue animals from shelters suffering from a desperate lack of funding, and the complete inability for any of our patient and dedicated volunteers to turn down a creature in need. We serve as a resource to our community and local pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training and good nutrition. We work with committed volunteers, veterinarians, fosters, and trainers to provide health care and temporary homes to animals deserving of another chance. Our number one priority is ensuring the health of all of our dogs and carefully screening and well matching ‘furever” homes.

I adopted my dog, Taco, from this rescue 7 years ago! They were much smaller back then but even then, I knew my sweet boy was in good hands until I found him and took him home. I’ve been following this rescue even before I adopted him! It’s so clear to see how much they truly care about the dogs. I do whatever I can to help whenever I can. Whether it’s donating money, supporting a fundraiser, or volunteering at events, I do my best because I know all the good they’re doing. They even offer free classes and support to our community which is amazing considering that you usually have to pay for these kinds of resources. All the videos I see that they post just show how they truly want the best for the dogs. They receive so much care and attention and I love seeing the dogs grow and develop to make them even more adoptable. This rescue truly does amazing work and my community is so lucky to have them. I know many people, including myself, have benefited from this rescue in one way or another and I am forever grateful for all the staff and volunteers at Meridian Canine Rescue.

I started fostering for Homeward Bound in 2020. I quickly fell in love with everything about the rescue. They find forever homes for dogs from every walk of life. They take in dogs that have medical conditions or dogs that may not look “perfect” that were relinquished by breeders, homeless dogs found wandering the streets and in some cases hurt and malnourished. They also take in dogs from kill shelters, many of which are diagnosed with heart worm and need treated before they are available for adoption. For Homeward bound it’s, not just about the dogs they take in. It’s also about setting their dogs up for success with their new homes. They have a strong fostering program. They know that giving a dog the opportunity to live in a foster home prior to adoption sets them up for success. Sometimes they even enroll their dogs into socialization classes. I personally attended a 6 week course with one of my fosters. Homeward Bound also has a very thorough vetting process. I know this because one of my personal dogs was a foster fail. Not only do they ask a lot of questions, they verify that potential adopters are up to date on vaccines & heart worm prevention on dogs they already have & that the dogs have been spay or neutered. For Homeward Bound it’s not just about finding dogs homes, it’s about finding the RIGHT home for their dogs.

    A Purposeful Life Animal Rescue

A Purposeful Life Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs and cats directly within our community, overcrowded shelters and other unforeseen circumstances. We were founded in 2022 by a small group of animal advocates in Iowa, after recognizing the need to support not only strays and relinquished animals in our area, but areas all across the country. Our startup mission is to offer support to the many local animals in need of homes, by partnering with area shelters and rescues. In addition, we are committed to providing behavioral, medical and low cost resources to people who are considering surrender, in an effort to keep their pets in their homes and out of the shelter system

Founded by Beatrice Martin Peck in 1946 to serve Franklin County's homeless animals, Prairie Paws' first name was the Franklin County Humane society. Through her own expense and effort, Beatrice established and named the first building The Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter on March 25th 1947, which was completed and welcomed it's first residents in 1948. Beatrice and her volunteers also investigated reports of animal cruelty, and their efforts led to the enactment of many ordinances and regulations regarding animal care that remain today. Beatrice never stopped advocating for helpless animals until her death in 1967. The animal shelter she founded would continue to save lives for more than 60 years after her passing. In 2010 a similar group of hard-working animal advocates designed, funded and built a state-of-the-art facility under the current name "Prairie Paws Animal Shelter". Prairie Paws Animal Shelter has grown tremendously but is still a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal shelter operating under the same philosophies with which it was established over 70 years ago. The Manhattan location, also known as the T Russell Reitz Animal Shelter, was added in 2023 in partnership with the City of Manhattan KS and other area municipalities. Roughly 5,000 animals a year are served through our various programs at our two facilities.

The Tier Haven family is comprised of volunteers, adopters, and donors who have a passionate love for these working breeds and all of their quirks. We are brought together by the dogs that steal our hearts while chewing the shoe collection. Tier Haven Rescue, Inc was originally incorporated in 1996 under the name ARK Project, Inc and is a long standing member of the animal rescue community in Kentucky. Originally an all-breed rescue Tier Haven shifted to focus on working dogs with the rise of breed specific legislation which was leading to larger numbers of German Shepherds, and other working dogs, being euthanized. We are rooted in Kentucky with a strong passion for enacting change within the state which has a long journey towards building our animal welfare laws. Even as breed specific legislation has dwindled there are still large numbers of working dogs finding themselves at risk of euthanasia due to a lack of breed knowledge and/or training. Tier Haven is committed to giving these dogs a second chance and we are all honored to be part of their paths to a better life.

Rescue Charlie’s Friends was established in 2018 because we love dogs and want them to have the best life possible. Many dogs lost their homes due to fire, floods or hurricanes. Others have been abandoned, neglected or abused. Whatever the cause, our mission is to rescue them and match them with a loving forever family. Most of our dogs come from high-kill shelters. The shelters do the best they can but due to limited facilities, dogs can’t stay long. Dogs must be moved out quickly or be put down. These are Charlie’s Friends. These are the dogs that we focus on. We stay in touch with shelters and volunteers in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and elsewhere. We bring the dogs to Maine where Fosters care for them until they are adopted. We rescue as many dogs as we can but we always need more help.

CHN rescues them all! We have 4 adopted CNH dogs. Our first 2 helped us when we grieved the loss of our senior pups less than a year apart. Our 3rd helped our family during Covid and brought some much needed extra joy to our daughter. Our last, well she's a spicy little gal who couldn't get adopted but of course we fell in love. The organization is very supportive and the dedication from everyone involved is inspiring. True heroes!!

    Key to lions heart rescue

Key to Lion’s Heart Rescue was founded in January 2018 in honor of Lion, a dog who made a tremendous impact on so many lives. Lion was dumped at a very high kill shelter where his time was up. Without knowing his past, he was pulled by a rescue and placed into a home. Lion was then moved nine times over the course of one year in an effort to find the right home. Unfortunately, the second to last move was that one that forever changed his soul. Just like people, dogs have a breaking point, and Lion had reached his. He had been through more in one year than any dog should ever have to go through in a lifetime. His last move was to a home where he was loved and cared for by a handful of people, his advocates for many months. Unfortunately, it was too late. The pain and suffering he had endured in some of his previous places was more than Lion could overcome. The light in his eyes was gone and he was suffering. In the arms of the people who loved him dearly, we whispered our goodbyes and told him how much we loved him. Humans had failed him. As we kissed him goodbye, we promised Lion that we would do our best to ensure no dog would ever have to endure what he had in his last year. At that moment, we dedicated ourselves to unlocking hope for all dogs by giving a little piece of our hearts to every single one that we can save.

I have never met anyone as in love with dogs as the founders of Gals Best Pal. In my opinion, they have become one of the best rescues in the state simply by caring more than anyone else. I feel that a lot of rescue organizations lose sight of the big picture after a time as they become more interested in presenting “successful” adoption numbers or donations than the well-being and safety of the very pups they are trying to help. I have zero doubt that Gals Best Pal will continue to thrive and grow and help more and more canines due to their foundation being based on dedication and steadfast hearts.

We don’t discriminate on the basis of age, pre-existing medical conditions, or breed, because every dog deserves to know love. As the literal “last hope” of the dogs we serve, our southern fosters pull dogs and puppies from partner shelters in Arkansas. While in foster, each dog receives love, care, and medical treatment, then receives a health clearance and transports to New England. After a mandatory 48-hour quarantine stay and an additional health clearance, each dog is picked up and fostered by a northern foster family who serves as a gateway to his/her adoptive home, affectionately known as a FURever home.

It is just a place for them to crash before their next step into a foster or adoptive home. Currently, we have about 30 cats and 10 dogs in our shelter. We do our best to make the animal's time here the best it can be. When they are in their kennels we play calming doggie music and they get enrichment actives. As we do not have a fenced in yard area outside, on nice days we schedule SniffSpots for our shelter residents! It is a great way that they can explore a new space and get some energy out.

Rescues are frequent. Re-homings are more frequent. Re-homings differ from rescues in the fact that we will have a history of the dog and its need. Puppies don’t normally need to be placed until they get bigger than the owner had intended and therefore are not as common in rescue. Please keep in mind that most “rescue/rehome dogs” are placed because of behavioral problems, most, but not all. Many of the dog’s issues were due to lack of training and socialization. Most problems can be addressed and corrected in a stable and loving home. If you really want a Berner, do tons of research. Our advice is to attend shows, join a BMD club and research breeders. If you would like to be considered for a rescue or re-homing, please read our policy’s on the Adopting page. The mission of the HMBMD Rescue program is to take in dogs of Bernese Mountain Dog parentage that are in shelters, surrendered by their owners, or that have become lost and abandoned, and to place them in permanent pet homes in order to help provide a safe harbor that they might otherwise be destroyed or abandoned.

We think about all the visits to the vet, the training, the full food bowls, walks, belly rubs, and all the healing that was given to each of them through the love and safety we were able to provide. Knowing that we were able to help them heal and be ready to love their forever family is a blessing beyond compare. I volunteered at Stray Rescue when I lived in St. Louis for a year. Every day, I was there volunteering alongside the caregivers. Now, living back in Indiana, I still volunteer when I go back to visit. I have seen first hand, behind the scenes, the great work they do. They take the dogs who have been shot, left, forgotten, neglected, the list goes on. They keep dogs for as long as they need a space because of the amazing volunteers they have through their Rehabilitation Enrichment Program who take each dog, even if not the most social on long walks, car rides, park visits - wherever the dog will be most comfortable for extended time out of the shelter. They have countless fosters but as with any rescue, can always use more. The dogs are the number one focus and the staff is amazing. My only downside is they’re in St. Louis and I’m not as close by any more. However, I’m still very connected and admire all the work they do. They are working on a new, larger facility to not just continue the good they do but increase their capacity. I love Stray Rescue. They are my family.

While I adopted Lynyrd through another rescue in town, Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue is really who helped me become a better and more educated dog mom. As a 1st time dog mom, Lynyrd & I didn't speak the same language and I and took to the internet to find some videos that could help me train but they were not how I wanted to train my pup. I remember coming home from a challenging walk, closing myself in the bathroom, and crying because these videos were all about using aversive training and I didn't want to hurt him. Why would anyone want to hurt an animal especially one that was abandoned and possibly abused? I had fleeting thoughts of rehoming him because I didn't feel that I would be able to train him and I didn't want anything terrible to happen to him because all the "training" I was doing was not helping. Enter Unchained Melodies. They have amazing training classes and are R+/Force & Fear Free. The classes were easy to understand and follow along. What a complete difference it made not just for Lynyrd but for myself as well. I was now equipped with the tools to be able to successfully train my pup! We have taken so many training classes through Unchained Melodies and I just signed us up for the Canine Good Citizen Course through UMDR. They become invested in ensuring that you and your pup are set up for success. Kai Murphy, who is one of SniffSpots top trainers in Missouri, is the trainer at Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue and he is amazing at what he does. As a rescue, I have witnessed the tremendous work that they put in as a rescue org. They dedicate their lives to freeing chained or penned dogs and put in so much work to rehabilitate the pups so they can live inside where they are supposed to. They advocate for the animals in their care by vetting the adoption candidates and ensuring that there is a fit between pup and adopters. They will also help other rural shelters by taking in pups, often pregnant mommas, and finding them good homes. I wish I would clearly articulate all the good that I have seen from this Rescue. I will always support their efforts through donating, attending events in and around town or by taking classes through them. In all of the amazing rescues out there, Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue is at the top of the list. Whether someone wants to adopt their new BFF, attend training classes, take part in one of many special events around Columbia, or simply donate time and/or money to help support a rescue, I would absolutely recommend Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue.

Our community is extremely grateful for the supportive network that embraces us. Thank you to our partners in the south, our team, and all our adoptive families for being the Hero in a dog’s life. Why adopt a Mary's Dog? All dogs deserve a chance to find a loving and caring home. Many are abandoned or neglected or never given the chance of a good life. As soon as our dogs are in the care of our southern partners, they are treated as family members while awaiting transport to New Hampshire. Our professional team begins caring for the dogs as soon as they arrive at our state-licensed facility to ensure the dogs successfully transition into forever homes. We provide specialty collars and leashes, yummy treats, toys and even homemade chicken stew. The dogs are examined by our veterinarian and then microchipped. Once they are granted a NH Health Certificate and observed by our dog savvy rescue team, they are ready to be loved by you! We know our dogs. It’s important you find the right dog for you and your family. We want all our adoptions to be successful and are available to answer your questions before and after you’ve brought your dog home. Later, they asked us to care for one of their dogs from a hoarding case and have continued to support us with that dog financially when necessary. Another dog, Emmy, was an NMDOG transferred to us. We adopted her to a lovely family that fell on hard times. NMDOG helped that family find temporary housing. The volunteers drive hours and hours to rescue from southern high kill shelters. Emphasus is on pregnant dogs so they save multiple lives with one rescue! The volunteers are tireless and make these trips several times a year. They also work locally to help shelters or strays in the area. I did adopt my kitty there last year so I am familiar with the process. I also donate to the wish lists whenever I can. The descriptions of available dogs is very very detailed and even a possible negative thing is noted but with a cute little blurb. “I’m not potty trained yet but I’m trying so hard!” Lately they’ve enlisted a professional photographer to do photo shoots of some available dogs. Very organized and dedicated!!

My mom started fostering and volunteering for Pawfect Match during the pandemic. I was 16 years old at the time and I immediately saw what a difference this rescue made for the dogs that came through our house but when the world re-opened, I really got to see how this rescue helped so many dogs that other rescues couldn't or wouldn't help. I helped my mom do transport and take dogs to the vet, some of them very sick. I watched her clean up wormy poop and scoop up piles of dead fleas and I couldn't understand why anyone would volunteer to do that. Then I saw those dogs get well and happy and I watched mom do meetings and adoptions and through that, I learned how this rescue helps so many humans, too. I'm 20 now and I continue to help in small ways between college breaks, by picking up donations, etc., but I'm much more of a "fan" of Pawfect Match than a true volunteer.

My 14-year affiliation with One of a Kind Pet Rescue has been full of individual stories of how this wonderful organization has gone above and beyond to rescue pets in unthinkable situations. They then have a loving process at their adoption center and clinic to immediately attend to the pet's emotional and physical needs. Next step, find a loving home for them. The Center carefully screens pet parents to make sure the home will be a loving place for the cat or dog. At the same time, One of a Kind has invested in an easy-to-use website through which the community can easily search online to see what pets are at the Center to adopt. One of a Kind is also very active in supporting community events and partnering with local corporations to make the community aware, not only of their rescue and adoption services, but also how to take better care of their pets. Another thing that makes the Center special is its founder, Lisa Toth, who regularly visits many of Ohio's animal shelters to rescue pets in danger of euthanasia. Proactively, these shelters know that if there's a pet in danger of euthanasia, they can call Lisa. This is truly an amazing organization and one that I think many other rescues could emulate in terms of caring for pets in their communities.

We had a hoarding situation in Bedford County Pa on New Years day. 90 plus dogs, plus cats and a turtle was rescued from this situation it was u comprehend ible. Abby's stepped in and took I believe 17 dogs from that situation. Not only did the take dogs. They took ones that needed immediate medical assistance. I was not going to get another pet after my previous dog had to be put to sleep due to cancer. He was 16. Also because of our age. We are retired. But Kelli one of the foster moms was fostering one of these dogs and I fell in love with him immediately. I saw the amazing reformation she accomplished with my little Frost. I could not wait to put my application in to make him mine. They are very thorough and do every thing possible to make a great decision for a new home for their dogs. They are amazing and the best friend to a dog that needs a home. I will be forever grateful for their assistance in filling an empty void in our hearts after 3 years without the love of our little guy. He has given me a whole new reason to feel needed and loved. AND WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH.

I have adopted 2 wonderful Brittany’s from NBRAN. Bailey was an owner surrender. Bailey was 10 years old. Bailey is now 12 years old and I couldn’t ask for a more perfect Brittany. Willow is 9 years old. I adopted Willow this past January. Willow was formerly an outside kennel dog before she was given to NBRAN. Willow spent 9 months in foster care getting her ready to be adopted. Willow is perfect. She is loving. You couldn’t tell she lived her first nine years outside. I was blessed to be chosen to adopt both Bailey and Willow.

I've been volunteering with The Hotel for Homeless Dogs since last Fall and have had a great experience with them! Everyone is super friendly and professional. The dogs are so well cared for and loved. The kennels are clean and the building is colorful and fun. They get lots of treats, pup cups, and kongs too! They also have a volunteer program where you can take the dogs for walks or playdates. And of course, they're always looking for fosters to open up more space so they can save more dogs! They had a few instances recently with flooding from the local river, but the amazing community pulled through and helped them get back on their feet. Highly recommend this shelter if you're looking for a dog or looking to support a local rescue!

I adopted my best friend Tootsie in June of 2020 from Proverbs 12:10 animal rescue. She was found under the porch of an elderly lady’s house, and it took 3 days to coax her out. Tootsie is from Houston County, TN where they don’t have animal control, so her fate would not look as great had Proverbs not been so patient in rescuing her. After adopting Tootsie, I was able to see what a well-run organization Proverbs was, and was able to give back by fostering a few dozen dogs for them over the next 3 years. It has given me the greatest joy, and I am eternally grateful for them bringing me my soul dog!

We adopted 2 cats from there and could not be happier. We also participated in several events the shelter is organizing throughout the year and that was a lot of fun. One is on Thanksgiving day when volunteers join with staff to serve the animal a special occasion meal… so fun. Globally the shelter is the main one for the city and they are doing an incredible job caring for the animals and trying to outreach to the community for getting as many adopted as possible. I even heard they work with out of state organizations to send dogs to states where adoption is not as easy as here in a Texas… Wonderful way to try and offer those animals a better life after they found their way there. As someone who has experienced the loss of beloved pets, I understand the emptiness that follows. That's why my discovery of Resilient Heart Animal Sanctuary was a turning point. Not only is this sanctuary a haven for animals, but it also serves as a nurturing space for staff, volunteers, and the community. After the passing of our two dogs, my family was hesitant to rush into adopting another pet. It was then that Resilient Heart appeared on our radar, and we decided to explore fostering. This decision led us to an incredibly rewarding journey. The experience of providing temporary homes to dogs in need was not just about helping these animals find great homes; it also unexpectedly opened our hearts to the idea of adopting again. Thanks to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Resilient Heart, we found our 'forever dog.' She has been a wonderful addition to our family, bringing immense joy and love. What truly sets Resilient Heart Animal Sanctuary apart is its sense of community. It's a unique blend of people from various backgrounds and walks of life, yet there's a common thread of warmth and inclusivity. Every visit to the facility makes me feel safe, comfortable, and welcomed. Being new to the Seattle area, the sanctuary and its community have been a significant part of making our transition to this new place much more pleasant. Resilient Heart isn't just a sanctuary for animals; it's a sanctuary for human hearts as well. I am profoundly grateful for having found this special place and the remarkable people who make it what it is.

We work with shelters and owners who cannot keep their pets and through extensive veterinary care and training, we rehabilitate them and place them in loving, forever homes where the animals will never again be abandoned. More than 30% of the animals we take in are special or medically needy and require more extensive and expensive care. Throughout the entire adoption process, I was very upfront about the fact that I have this special dog. I was pretty confident that our current dog would gain more confidence if he had another dog in the house that was more confident than our current anxious boy. The foster parents were the most helpful people throughout the adoption process, even giving us helpful tips about introducing the dogs.
